Date Recognition Guide

Learn how Gym Note Plus automatically recognizes and associates dates with your workouts when you translate handwritten notes.

How It Works

When you paste or write your workout notes in the Translate page, Gym Note Plus uses AI to scan for any dates you've written. These dates are automatically linked to the corresponding workouts in that note.

Supported Date Formats

Gym Note Plus recognizes a wide variety of date formats, including:

  • Full dates: January 15, 2024 • 15th January 2024 • Jan 15, 2024
  • Numeric formats: 01/15/2024 • 15-01-2024 • 2024-01-15
  • Short formats: 1/15/24 • 15/1/24
  • Relative dates: Today • Yesterday • Monday • Last Tuesday
  • Casual formats: Jan 15 • 15 Jan • Monday the 15th

Single Date Per Note

If you write one date in your workout note, all exercises in that note will be associated with that date.

Example:

Monday, Jan 20th

Bench Press
- 225 x 5
- 225 x 5
- 225 x 4

Squats
- 315 x 5
- 315 x 5
- 315 x 5

Result: Both Bench Press and Squats are logged for January 20th.

Multiple Dates Per Note

If you write multiple dates in your workout note, Gym Note Plus intelligently associates each workout with its corresponding date based on proximity.

Example:

Monday, Jan 20th
Bench Press - 225 x 5 x 3
Rows - 185 x 8 x 3

Wednesday, Jan 22nd
Squats - 315 x 5 x 3
Deadlifts - 405 x 3 x 2

Friday, Jan 24th
Overhead Press - 135 x 8 x 3

Result:

  • Bench Press and Rows → January 20th
  • Squats and Deadlifts → January 22nd
  • Overhead Press → January 24th

Tips for Best Results

Be Consistent

Write dates in a consistent format throughout your notes. This helps the AI accurately recognize patterns.

Position Matters

Place dates above the workouts they correspond to. The AI associates exercises with the most recent date written before them.

Clear Separation

Leave a blank line or clear visual separation between different workout days to help the AI distinguish between sessions.

Avoid Ambiguity

If using numeric dates, be consistent with your format (MM/DD vs DD/MM) to avoid confusion.

If you don't write any date in your notes, Gym Note Plus will automatically use today's date for all workouts in that note.

Troubleshooting

Workouts assigned to wrong dates?

  • Check that dates are positioned above their corresponding workouts
  • Ensure dates are clearly written and in a recognizable format

Date not recognized?

  • Try writing the date more explicitly (e.g., "January 15" instead of just "15")
  • Use standard date formats when possible

Multiple workouts merged into one date?

  • Add clear separation between different workout sessions
  • Write a new date header for each distinct workout day
